You’ve heard it a hundred times: “Just cut the caffeine.” Maybe you tried. Maybe you white-knuckled through the headaches, only to feel just as tired, and a little grieved over losing your one quiet morning ritual.
We’ve been there. And we’re here to say you may not have to give it up.
Wired, but still tired
A lot of us reach for coffee to get going and end up jittery and frazzled, with the tiredness still sitting underneath. Between the two of us, we’ve tried it all: lots of creamer, black coffee, Bulletproof, and even a stretch of decaf because our bodies felt completely out of sorts.
What we learned is that sometimes it’s less about the coffee and more about how we’re using it. Coffee on an empty stomach, or as a crutch in place of rest and real food, can leave you feeling worse.
The part nobody talks about
Coffee is one of the most heavily sprayed crops out there, and mold can be a real issue too. If you’ve ever felt “off” after your cup and couldn’t figure out why, the quality of your coffee is worth a second look.
Choosing a coffee that’s tested for mold and pesticides is a small change that can make a big difference.

One thing to try today
Eat something before you drink your coffee. Even a few bites of protein with breakfast counts. Have your cup with your meal or right after, instead of on an empty stomach.
It’s simple, it’s free, and it’s the habit we hold onto most.
What we personally sip
For about three years, we’ve been drinking an instant coffee blended with reishi mushroom spores. It tastes like regular coffee (you can’t taste the mushroom at all), and neither of us gets the jitters from it. That’s our own experience, and every body is different, so take what’s helpful and leave the rest.
What matters most is that you feel supported, not deprived.
Come sit with us
Your morning cup doesn’t have to be something you feel guilty about. Caring for the body you’ve been given can include the things you love.
